Alex Prothmann

Alex Prothmann has been a fully licensed 308A Sheet Metal Worker in Ontario, Canada for over 10 years. He first started at a company specializing in parapet coping metal fabrication and installation. Coping metal requires a certain level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Then he worked for a copper restoration company where he officially started an apprenticeship. He became a certified red seal sheet metal worker. Then he moved to a company that specialized in pre-painted standing seam metal roofing. In this role he felt like his talents were being wasted. He decided to leave that company and start his own business in 2012. In starting the business, he became exposed to the unfortunate state of the metal construction industry when it comes to skilled labor availability and learning opportunities. This drove him to start Architectural Sheet Metal 101 (ASM101), a one-stop-shop where skill ranges of all sheet metal workers can not only congregate and share ideas and learn from each other, but also a hub where they can go to learn without outside influences. Where the craft is what comes first before sales and bottom lines.
